Sorry that people are grabbing your translations. I hope you find a way to keep up the over-lays. My weekly Kubera fix is one of the highlights of the week I look forward too.
Is there a way you can password protect the overlays?
Do something like Forbidden Garden (a scanlation group) where they give a small paragraph and you find the clue in it for the password. (Maybe do some Kubera Trivia?)
It wont stop the leaker :
Any measure that can block a leaker who read the webcomic will revent any reader.
On the other hand , the leak is a screenshot of naver website with the overlay, so i am not sure BKS can be taken responsible at all
Yeah .... I know it won't stop the leaker ... It MAY slow down the leaker though.
Honestly the best way to stop rippers would be to do what Attractive Fascinante (A scanlation group) did and create a closed community (But they went way overboard with that, pretty much no one sees their new scans.)
And that isn't the best route to take either as the fans are the ones that suffer in the end. :((
Hope you guys find a solution soon.
I'll admit i was leeching off other sites for Kubera up until translations stopped coming. Finding the overlays was the best thing ever because now i know that the author is being supported by my views and i can read the manhwa in it's original format
That is extremely sad and revolting. Please don't stop that amazing job which you are doing. =/
This is very unfortunate. You could keep the chapters between the leaked ones and the more recent ones locked, but that would prevent the rest of us honest people from reading those chapters too. *Sigh...* It's such a shame someone is being so disrespectful. It's so nice to read the chapters in English AND give Currygom more views at the same time. I really hope a solution will be found.
Real sad that something like this had to happen. Tierra I hope the person ripping the translation comes to his or her senses and stops this before someone gets the short end of the stick.
sadly, there is money involved...
Damn. And I just had to find this site TODAY. *Sigh*
I hope you guys get this solved soon. In the case of "Cheese in the Trap",this has happened repeatedly, but somehow people finally got the message (more or less).
Locking chapters don't change anything, some sites like MangaFox, got they ppl, who don't read manga/manhwa/webcomics they just upload them if they find any new chapter. They don't care what u do.
I'm sorry this keeps happening... :( It's a shame that some people don't have the decency to respect the one method that actually allows English readers to support the author.
Why not make the viewers IP address show up somewhere hidden in the overlay. Make it show up a different amount of times for each chapter and the copier can never know for sure if he has photo shopped out all of his IP addresses.
That way Naver can find the one that is doing the coping.
if he is bit good at editing he can edit it.
supposing he find it.
The ripper may not read the page/pay enough attention
On the other hand, they can avoid it by using private navigation
... pretty comon in 'piracy'
IP address was included in a previous version of the overlay thing (during two chapters only).
But it's as much tedious (and weird) to do that it is easy to circumvent anyway: people can change their IP.
I had the IP of one culprit one time, but I decided not to do anything about it, and removed the whole "IP spying" thing.
If it's a second-hand manga site owner after the ad-money they could just go stick a big phat stick somewhere deep, but if the spreading is done by the actual community it just makes me sad how they do not seem to comprehend the direct harm they are doing to the author and scanlation group that has actually found a way to release their work while supporting the author. Whatever the conclusion you reach, we are grateful for all your effort.
It's really a shame... I was very happy when i found out this group scanlating new kubera chapters, and i tought the over-lay method was perfect, because that way we would go to the original site to read it, helping the author too...
I don't think if there is a way to stop other sites to get your translation, unfortunately. It would be a good thing that more people find out about your work, but ony if they use your over-lay and help the author increasing her views...
Thank you anyway for all of your work. I hope you do not decide to stop here, but if you do, would it be possible to at least have translations of new chapters? Or would that too be a problem?
Perhaps there would be a way to stop them by using a login system?
If some guy was uploading screen shots of the raw versions on some site, would naver stop releasing the chapters? I wouldn't think so. If its on the internet there really isn't any way to prevent people from taking screen shots and uploading it. Now I don't know much about this but would it be possible to try to get the illegal chapters taken down?
There's no way to get the chapters down from mangareader sites.
I think the most action that was done against them(by the government or something) was that mangafox no longer has any "manga" (only the ones from Japan) available to read in the US. (Some other countries IP address are also blocked, but it's not blocked in every country)
Mangareader sites do Not care if a manga is licensed in English, and thus sharing copyrighted material. The DMCA doesn't care that mangareader sites are the ones that should be sought after; That scanlation groups take down projects once it's licensed, and even go through the trouble of asking DL forums to remove the links (Which most forums respect the groups and remove the links).
Instead the scanlation groups gets all the heat. (They probably ask the mangareader sites too but get ignored.) This is why a lot of people like Batoto because they actually respect the group's wishes about sharing.
The overlays are great because you are going to naver's site, and supporting the author, and it's not sharing copyrighted material.
The best thing to do is to help spread the word to use the overlays and not mangareader sites. (Hopefully they will notice an increase of visitors/readers on their site and not care about some of it getting leaked elsewhere. Or better yet go after the mangareader sites instead.)
I remember how a scanlation site (surasplace.com) used this method.
They place the translation at the side instead, leaving the original text untouched. So if the person were to rip off the chapter, they have to do all the editing and hopefully it will be too troublesome so they will have to give up.
It's effective somehow? But the layout is kinda weird though.
Hope you guys find the solution to your problems!
I've seen those uploads. I'll put them back on my adblock list again.
I really want to learn korean just to get my kubera fix, any suggestions on where to start?
